Topic: Dog doesn't chew

We just adopted a 2 yr old (approx) Cocker Spaniel. She eats fine but never chews or plays with ANYTHING. No bones, no rawhide, no toys nothing.
Any advice?

I know someone else who had a cocker that didn't chew. You might also want to have a vet check to make sure she's feeling fine and her teeth/mouth are alright. If everything's good, feel extremely lucky.

She has been to the vet and her teeth seem to be fine and they found nothing wrong with her. I guess I am lucky but it would be nice to play a little fetch with her now and then. She also seems to be a really mellow girl as well, which could be that she is still unsure of our home. We have only had her 4 days.

Maybe the dog was never encouraged to play. Try teaching it to play fetch. Or chase a ball.
We have to do with Molly. Mickey, my other dog, still loves to play dog ball. Get his chewy and loves to be chased around the coffee table.
Now Molly didn't know how to play dog ball and didn't know how to play chase. We have to teach her. It keeps them busy and it's fun to interact with your dog on this level.
Thank your lucky stars it doesn't chew.

Maybe you should try those treat balls where you can put doggie treats inside the ball and as the dog plays with it treats eventually come out. They have them at www.sitstay.com which is a fabulous site!
Maybe that would encourage your dog to play with the toys more.

We also adopted our Sheltie @ 2 yrs old.
She is good about chewing her food when she eats, but we have noticed that if she sees or hears the dog that lives next door, she will "wolf" down her food quickly, without chewing.
Maybe your doggie has been around other dogs that tried to take her food.
Also, it could be that whoever owned her before you did not play with her or give her chewy toys. She may not know what to do with them.
Our Sheltie had been confined to someone's backyard without much human contact for nearly 2 years, so she did not understand at first that the chewy toys were for her. Again, it took her a couple of weeks to "get it".
