I am considering adopting a basset from a basset rescue org, but am concerned about bassets' reputation as big droolers. Is there a way to effectively deal with this so it isn't a problem? Thanks

I have a friend that does basset rescue - and from what I've seen of them they're not too bad of droolers. I do know someone with a Bernese Mtn Dog - and does he ever drool. And it's not just drool - I swear, it's cement. But they deal with it. They keep a handkerchief tied around his neck to wipe his mouth, and always have napkins on hand. I personally don't care for drooling dogs - but they love their little boy - and they just got used to it.

dogs drool - period. if you want a non-drooler you want something that isnt a big dog or a gun dog. Border collies rarely drool (at least mine didnt) but they take one heck of a lot of exercise and training, terriers arent big droolers either. Lou
