I have recently started letting my dog that is in heat stay in the house so she dont get bred.. i have came up with a new problem (actually an old one), she is litterally eating my lanoleum and my trimming in the bathroom. My question is this.. AS A LAST RESORT, i am wanting to get a muzzle to keep on her ONLY OF A NIGHT WHEN I AM ASLEEP. during the day she will be rid of it and not have it on till i go to bed and get up the next morning. i am wanting to get her one which will allow her to drink and pant and everything else, but eliminate her chewing and tareing everything up in my bathroom... i know it may sound horrible or inhumane, but she would be able to drink and breathe with ease, just not allowed to chew on EVERYTHING.. any suggestions on what i can do? or if this would be ok?

It would be fine. The ideal thing of course would be to teach her not to chew, but since you're not planning on keeping her in after she's fixed, it's not that big of a deal.

THANK YOU [Big Grin] .. all i have been getting from others is "drop her off in the middle of nowhere" or shoot her, or take her to the pound...

1. the only problem i have with this dog is the fear of her getting pregnant because she is in heat..

2.. she is to good for a bullet, she has never even threatened to harm anyone, so why should i shoot her?

3. She is my companion when my husband isnt around, she is my security in every way. their is NO reason to get rid of her...

THANK YOU DAWN for the first LOGIC answer i have gotten all day.

yeah i think Dawn is right, a muzzle will be absolutely fine, certain types of basket muzzle allow dogs to drink and breathe easily. Make sure you fix it very securely though because she will probably try to worry it off at first. The answer to this may be to get a busta collar from the vet to stop her getting her paws to her face. This shouldnt stop her drinking either so should be fine. [Smile] I cant believe people have suggested getting rid of the dog just because she came into heat. I hope none of these people have dogs - if they do i feel sorry for the poor mutts.

i agree lou, i mean they have went as far as telling me to shoot her.. i believe in shooting aggressive dogs, but i mean just because my dog is in heat dont mean she deserves to be shot.. she is EXCELLENT with kids and i would go as far as trusting her with my life.
