My dog has been treated before (and not too long ago) for tapeworms and I noticed they have come back. Is there any medication an owner can buy himself/herself in pet stores or online?

Thank you in advance!

I buy the wormer from my vet and administer it myself. It's just a pill or two (depending on the size of the dog). I can't remember the name of it, off the top of my head, but I'd imagine that your vet would do that for you since your dog's been treated for that already.

Good luck!

Are you sure that they've come back? Or is it that they're dead now?

I would take a stool sample in to the vet just to make sure. When my pup had worms - the medication was really inexpensive - only around $5.

Tapeworms come directly from fleas and from fleas only. Your vet should have told you this on your first visit. The dog gets the tapeworms by chewing on himself because he itches. He then injests the tapeworm eggs which are carried by the fleas. Droncit, Cestex, Drontal Plus and Vercom Paste are the most effective and commonly used dewormers. You can only get them from your vet. But unless you eliminate the fleas from your dog and his enviornment (your home and yard) they will continue to come back.

They can get tapeworms from places besides fleas. Like feces, contaminated food, contaminated ground...
