Has anyone else purchased a Kong for their dog? I have a couple different ones for our Great Dane. But those paste cans are SO expensive. Vader can go thru a can in minutes if I let him! Our trainer rewards with peanut butter. So, recently I've been buying peanut butter & stuffing it inside. Has anyone else used substitutes for the Kong?

Well, I wouldn't recommend this, but I caught my son stuffing his ravioli in it once...
I have used regular canned dog food, just smeared it in there with a knife.

Freckles has a couple of KONGS. When we are going to leave her in the yard for an extended period while we are gone, I stuff all kinds of goodies inside, anything from a couple of dried doggie biscuits, to softer treats, frankfurter pieces, cheese and then cap it off with a good smear of peanut butter. Keeps her busy and out of mischief for a good long time. However, she has learned to toss them in the air and let them bounce to jar the goodies out. I cram them tight and full. Think I remember someone on this forum mentioning even freezing them.

I have heard , to stuff it with peanut butter then freeze it for a while. That way it takes alot longer to get out, and also it tastes better for longer.

Our bigger dogs love Kongs! They love them plain, and filled with peanut butter and doggie treats. Opie, the youngest, especially goes nuts for them. He has a Kong ball that he carries all over the place.

There was a photo at my local Petsmart of a Shepard who's tounge swelled up in a Kong and was stuck there. It was VERY painful for the dog.
I won't buy those toys anymore - it was a very horrible picture.
