How low will a dog's temperature go before you should expect puppies? My dogs went down to 98.7 this morning but she is still eating and I was ondering if I should expect puppies today? She is on her 64th day in pregnancy thanks.

Their eating can be a bit confusing, cause Ellie polished off a bowl of food, then delivered a pup half and hour later.
Most wont't eat, but as I have said in another topic in this forum, all dogs are different.
The temperature drop is only a guideline, but will not tell you exactly when.
In celcius as I have'nt got a conversion chart in front of me: 37.5c.
need any more help, just ask [Smile]

The drop in temperature is indicative that the pups will be born imminently. I can only give you celsius guidelines too - not familiar with farenheit equivalents. I would be watching for pups in the next 24 hours though.

The 98.7 converts to 37 degrees celsius so I guess I should be watching her for puppies. Hopefully she will be having them she hasn't shown any other signs except she does have milk.... I can express milk its not dripping out. But I guess I will just wait and see since not all dogs are the same and show the same signs Thanks for your help.

YES, wherever you have her, get yourself right beside her, now!!! Look for a slight stiffening of her back legs and her back half sort of bending up, like we do if we have a stitch, thats a contraction. Good luck, and when she starts these contractions don't let her go too long say half to one hour, if no pup call vet for advice, especially if her first litter.

Your welcome, keep us posted, I want to know the minute you can, how many? what color? what sex? and most importantly, HOW'S MUM.
Don't forget your calcium supplement once she's had them, and if she goes for ages I give some warm milk (half milk, half hot water) with some glucose, or sugar if you have none, to keep up their energy, it takes a lot of work.
And also, (I could gone on here forever you poor thing) If she eats the afterbirth (green stuff)
it's normal, don't stop her, just watch she does'nt chew too far back to belly button or they can get a hernia after.

Hey Lindsi,
Thats great, sounds like all went well, keep them puppys warm as they can't regulate their temperature till 2 weeks. and give mum a calcium supplement so se doesn't get eclampsia (real bad)
They sound like there beauutifulll.
Mine have just opened their eyes (10 days) and starting to walk.
If you need help with any of the stages, write back in with new topic, or you can pm me I check everyday.
CONGRATS!!!!
