My mom has a 10 year old female chihuahua/pekinese mix. The dog got extremely dirty so she gave her a bath using hartz flea and tick shampoo(green strong stuff) this is the shampoo she has always used. almost 2 days later she noticed that the dog was leaving lots of hair behind wherever she layed. She thought she was just shedding so she decided to help out and brush her. when she did she brushed out huge gobs of hair. along the dogs spine is now a very thin layer of hair left. the skin looks perfectly normal though, no sign of fleas or any scabs, nothing. could this be early shedding or do you think she developed an allegic reaction to her shampoo? she has been using this shampoo for years. the dog was EXTREMELY dirty and oily for a while before she had her bath. could this be a cause? thankyou for any replies.

it could be a cause or it could be totally unrelated. One cause of massive hairloss is cushings disease i would take her to a vet who may suggest blood tests as cushings disease is common in older dogs.

Here are some other signs for cushings disease to help you decide,
hunger, excessive thirst, excessive urination, pot belly and panting.

i agree, i don't think it could be the shampoo if she has been useing it for a while, or unless if they changed sumthin in the product. which i doubt.

It is normal for dogs 2 shed but not were it looses a lot! does she rub up against ne thing alot? that could help get all the hair out. u no wat i mean? [Confused]
