My 3month old shih tzu has suddenly lost his appetite! He use to gobble up his food in 2minutes but now, he just stares at it and needless to say, barely touches it! He just got his rabies shots 7days ago and started acting up since then. the vet said it might be a minor reaction to the shots but it's been 7 days already and I dont think a reaction takes this long. He ate a bit yesterday but this morning, he didnt eat at all and vomited a bit of what I would presume is acid since theres nothing in his stomach, right? Could anyone tell me what they think is wrong? I got a new pug 3 weeks ago and noticed that Cocoa (shih tzu) just loves staring at him gobble down his food then would sometimes sniff out the floor near his dish for any leftovers...why cant he eat his share in his dish? Could it be a submissive issue all together? Or am i just rambling? so sorry...i'm just so worried over him...any help or advice would really be appreciated. Thanks!

Alright, I'm no expert but I'm going through some pretty bad stuff with my chihuahuas. They all had their Parvo vaccine, but STILL came down with Parvo somehow! The first sign was that they loss their appetite and wouldn't eat. They just look at the food and walk away. Then they started to vomit. Which is usullay the next sign in Parvo. After this there will be diahreah (didn't spell that right). Parvo is a deadly disease. I had 4 chihuahuas and my youngest died of it monday morning before her vet appointment. She died within 24 hours after showing symptoms. My other one...Mr.Pippy, has been at the vet since Monday afternoon. He finally gets to come home tomorrow, for he is doing GREAT now. I have post here about all his updates if you wanna read. We just now took my other lil' girl chihuahua in for Parvo, and she was kept. I have one more here at home, well actually at my bf's house, that were getting ready to take in to be tested for it just in case. He's showing no signs yet, but can anyday. Usually after they have caught Parvo...it takes 7 days for the symptoms of it to start showing. Just thought I would share this as this can be real tragedy if so. It's a lot of money to cure this disease, we're paying for two dogs now in the vet getting treatments and fluids, but it is definitly worth it. You may wanna ask your vet about it though since he has a loss of appetite and has vomited. The first time each one of my dogs vomited it was between a yellowish-clearish, whitish color.

2 questions here, the food one first,(your last question) it is normal for dogs to sniff out each others bowls, besides one might have got something different, he just want's to find out, and see if he can share some of it.lol don't worry about that one. Your first question as you can see Mr Pipples has had quite a fright and torrid time, but his dogs symptoms included diarrhoea and vomiting, first sign of Parvo, plus its the diarrhoea that causes the dehydration, a big problem for dogs, also they went down very quickly (norm. 24 hrs). It sounds like your dog has gone off his food over a few days, there could be a number of reasons for this, including the side effect of the vaccination, female dogs on heat can cause a male to stop eating for a while. So I guess what I'm saying here, is don't panic that it's parvovirus, but I think a trip to the vets would be warranted as he is vomiting.
-------------------- I love my labs.

after i wrote my concerns in the forum, cocoa finally ate his bowl! Thank goodness!!!! and he has also eaten his dinner which is doubly great! i still have no idea why he acts up sometimes...im thinking maybe i should slowly change his food. im currently feeding him eukanuba puppy food, would you suggest a better brand aside from Nitro(we dont have that here). in the case of his vomiting, it was yellowish in color which is quite weird since he didnt have anything in his stomach at that time but that was the only time he vomited. if he vomits again, i will definitely run to the vet about it. thanks so much for your advices!

Glad to hear your pup is okay and that he started eating. I posted the repy about Parvo, because that was the signs my dogs started out with. My youngest died from this awful disease. And my 8 month old chihuahua, just now got out of the vet this evening after 4 days. And I still have 1 in there. My oldest one though is looking like he's not gonna come down with it. So that's good!!!!

Mr Pipples I'm so totally sad over your loss. I would literally die if something ever happened to my pups. After reading your info on Parvo, I started to read about the disease just to make sure cocoa wasnt getting that....i'm still observing him but so far it seems to be looking good for him. Thanks though for your concern and giving me an idea of the disease....i'm more cautious and aware of it now. I hope your other pups do well...keep us posted k? By the way, anyone have any suggestions on the brand of food I should switch to from eukanuba. the only brands we have here aside from eukanuba are Hills science diet, Nature's Recipe, Pedigree, Diamond. Thats all i can remember so pls tell me what you guys recommend from this short selection. Ty!
