My four-year-old Great Dane, Gracie, is undergoing treatment for twisted bowl. I noticed the symptoms on Friday (27th Feb 2004). She was salivating and shaking and very bloated. I rushed her to the vets as an emergency where she underwent a bowl operation. She is now recuperating at home. Has anybody within this forum experienced similar problems and if so, what steps have you taken to stop this condition reoccurring.

Hi Andy. Hope everything is going well with Gracie. My colie, Kip, bloated several years ago when he was almost 9 years old. He had gastropexy (surgery to attach his stomach to his side). He recovered without any complications and had no more episodes.
AFter his surgery, we fed him three small meals per day and tried not to let him drink too much water either before or after a meal. We also made sure he did not run around a lot either right before or after a meal.
Some people told me to use a raised bowl but my vet said this would make things worse so we did not do that.
Take care. Kit
