Topic: Fresh "people food" ?

ok guys, youre going to get sick of me, but i have another concern. I was visiting a web site, i belive it was something like www.yourpurebreadpuppy.com. For my bullmastiff, they highly recomended fresh "people food". They suggested chicken, even yogurt. Is this truly neccessary, or can I stay with my Iams large puppy food? ![[Confused]](confused.gif) I cant imagine having to cook for a dog, but we love him so much i'd do anything for him. (after all,thats what mommy's and daddy's for! ![[Razz]](tongue.gif) ) Any other dog food suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

HAHA.....your funny! All you puppy needs is a good healthy puppy food. I is definetly not nessescary to cook for him. You might want to do that occasionally as a nice treat for him but it is not neded on a regular basis. You are a very good person and it is wonderful that you want your puppy to be happy and healthy! I'm with you on this one Nate, with our busy lifestyles why go to all the trouble mucking about with cooking, then the worry of nutrients and vitamins etc. when there are perfectly balanced feeds commercially available. I have raised heaps of pups, all perfectly well, some going into old age now on commercial food.
As Nate said the occasional treat is great, who doesn't like to do that for their dogs, but the hype about feeds sometimes can go beyond the average pet owner.

Convenience is the key. But I like to clean out my freezer at least twice a year and find I usually have meat that is unappealing but nothing wrong with it. SO I cook up batches of Dog Soup. I put in fresh vegs (Skin & all) all the meat, etc. If I make more than they can eat within a day or two I can put it in freezer bags and give to them as a treat or in an emergency. I usually add dry dog food as well so it has a nice thick consistency and of course they love it.
I never use any salt or spices so it's good for them.

people food isnt a balanced diet for dogs so its best to use a formulated puppy food. Of course there's no harm in treating them once in a while. My dogs just love their turkey dinner at christmas! Sites like this make a vet's work much harder, its great that you're doing your research and good that you can recognise a thoroughly daft idea when you see it!
