I have a rottweiler who is nine years old and has all of a sudden stopped eating. It has been two days and last night i tried to even make him some ground beef and she only ate a little bit. She has never had a problem of not eating so I fear that something might be wrong. Do you think she is sick? If anyone has suggestions I would greatly appreciate the input. Thanks,
brett

I would also say to call the vet. My dog goes through phases of not eating. I know its only because he is picky & wanting to see what he can get off of us. If you cooked up ground beef and she/he wouldn't eat it I would say something is wrong. Any dog would eat ground beef. If your dog has never done this before I would call the vet. Good Luck!!!

thanks. We tried feeding her ground beef yesterday and she only ate about a hand full. She usaully loves her hard food and we never give her people food so when she wouldn't eat much ground beef then something is pretty weird. She is drinking a little bit of water though not as much as usual. We tried looking at her stomach and but when we tried to touch it she started to wimper. My poor dog.

I hope you've gone to the Vet already. I suggest to everyone reading if something is wrong - to pick up their phone first and call either their own vet or the nearest emergency vet centre.

Most of them will help you out over the phone and they are certainly more knowledge than us chat room buddies. PS please share what happens as it can help all of us in the future.

Right when we were going to bring her into the vet she started to get better. And now she is back to her same old self!!!! My mother had given her some antibiotics which I think helped her get over whatever she had.) But she is now spoiled everyday with soft dog food. Thanks for everyones help. Take care and peace.

My 5 year old Black Lab "Harley", which we adopted 6 months ago, has problems eating also...Her stomach makes "funny" noises, she sniffs her food, but will not eat...its been 2 days now:(...she has been eating grass, and vomited a few times
Do i have to be worried , and take her to the Vet, or should i waitt it out for another day or 2, and see what happens?
Thank you

Dogs naturally eat grass to help clean the gut, If your dog is not eating and vomiting I would call the vet, especically with grass eating too, he is sick.

I love my labs.

Thank you ellierat and doglover(didn't know how to answer your message)...apreciate it, i gave her rice with some eggs...she eat some of it, not much, but its a start...and i called the Vet, and he told me to feed her some rice with beefbroth(for taste)and to give harley half a tablespoon of Pepto Bismol....that seemed to have done the trick for the noisy stomach, and it feels so good to see her happy tail wagging:)

How about bowel movements? Not that I want to create a panic, but whenever your dog starts acting unusual, call the vets. Do not hesitate.

We had a Cairn Terrier that I gave to my parents as a gift. At the young age of 4, she too stopped eating, but my parents hadn't noticed bowel movements also.

Suddenly she became real sick and they took her into the vets right away. She had a blocked bile duct and her liver stopped functioning due to stones in her gall bladder. Two days later she died from this condition.

So, never hesitate to call the vets. My parents suffered much guilt over this thinking it would too soon pass, but now after this terrible incident, they have learned to never wait.
