I have been to the vet a few times about this. It happens a few times a day, although recently she went about a year with no problems. Sometimes it seems like she's gasping for air. It looks like she's trying to breath in but it won't work. She wheezes and makes snorting noises while it's happening. It happens a lot in the middle of the night when she's sleeping on (usually in) our bed. Usually if i get up and give her a little snack or something, the distraction usually stops it...Does anybody know what this is...I had a vet tell me dogs don't get breathing allergies. That didn't sound right to me...could it be dust? Would a home air cleaner help do you think...thanks. Please email me...

Dogs can get the sneezes though, it sounds like that to me, probably something in the air.

Distraction stops it? Could it be result of a dream or other behavioural reaction. Stress, etc.?

This can be a sign of an obstructed airway (like sleep apnea. At worst it could mean lung cancer and heart failure.
