HI

Wondering if anyone with more breeding experience can help me.

This is the first time that I am breeding my 2 year old Great Dane.

She is know supposed to be 34 days pregnant, but I can not really see much difference in her stomach size.

She is prone to phantom pregnancies, and had one with her first and second heat.

I took her to the vet a while ago so that he can feel if she is pregnant,he told me to come back 2 days later, wich I did. Then he told me that cannot really feel individual "bulbs" in her stomach, but that her uterus is definitely enlarge. So he would say that there is a 95% chance that she is pregnant.

What do you think, could her uterus be enlarged if she is having a phantom pregnancy?
Is there any signs I should look at to find out if she is preg. or having a ohantom?

Thanks
Retha

Retha, they can do an ultrasound.. at this age they should also be able to detect heartbeats.

Don't ya just love phantom pregnancies, one of mine does it every heat. 34 days, half way, bit tricky to tell without the ultrasound, or a blood test, won't show on an xray yet, the trouble is phantom can be almost identical to the real thing, believe me I was caught out exactly 6 weeks ago, the pups are going for vaccinations today. The b---h is being spayed in a couple of weeks, can't keep going through this all the time. Her belly didn't even show, don't know where she had them tucked in. Then other times I could of sworn she was pregnant, milk, swollen belly, the works, special treatment, diet, heating or air conditioning, NO PUPS, thrown out of the whelping room in disgust!!lol. So I guess you can only treat as if she is pregnant or go for either of the above.
