My puppies are 13 days old. Their eyes opened yesterday. They whined a little bit. Is this because there are getting used to it. They seem fine now but they whine every once in awhile. This is normal right. I dont need to be alarmed everytime i hear a little whimper right?? HaHa! Well thanks guys! [Big Grin]

Hi Nathan, glad your back, been busy huh? just wait now their eyes are open and they are probably starting to walk you will be weaning before you know it.
The whining is normal, they are just getting a glimpse of the world, they will soon be howling and barking, no you don't need to race in everytime, it is their communication with each other, like Hey I can see you little brother, come over here and play. although, they can't see very well yet, sort of shadowy till 2 1/2 weeks or so.
You will need to start weaning at about 3 weeks, not before though, by then you will notice mum will leave them quite a bit, that is ok, they will snuggle up to each other, mum will feed when her teats fill up, she will know.

Also I'm pretty sure you would have know this but thought I'd say it anyway, they are deaf up until this time too, so they would be testing their hearing as well. You can check this by lifting up their earflaps, if you see it looks like a little cauliflower with no opening they are still deaf, but if there is the tinyiest of holes (ear canal) they are starting to hear.
And where are you by the way?

I start off with Farex, it's a baby cereal found in your supermarket, because it's rice based I've found it puppy tolerant, I mix it with warm water to a fairly liquid state, them mash in about a dessertspoon of puppy tin food for smell and taste. I give this once a day for 2 days, then increase to twice a day for 2 days then I start moistening puppy biscuits slowly adding this and decreasing the Farex till about 4 weeks old when their teeth are all through. Then I feed biscuits & tin food 3 times a day till full weaning. Don't forget always moisten the biscuits otherwise they swell inside their tums too much if fed dry.
Love to see a pic of your puppies.
