Our 7 1/2 year old male lab, Rusty, has been acting very weird lately and we need some help. He started about three weeks ago, just walking around in circles, around our house, the back yard, around the house itself, around the picnic table, tree's, etc. He just walks like someone is calling him, yet he goes no where so to speak. He just goes in circles. Inside the house he wanders from room to room, looking for something. We took him to the vet, she said its behavioral, and maybe he can sense another dog in heat, or coming into heat. We have a female who is close to coming into heat again, but he has never acted like this before. Does anyone have any idea if it could be due to her being close to being in heat, or could it be something else? He is up to date on all his meds/shots, etc. He seems to have lost his appetite, we have to force feed him his food for the most part. This is not normal in our lab world, so we don't know what is wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

very unusual, does he try to do the same thing if you take him for a walk or swim, I would get him out of your house for a while, take him somewhere away from your other dog and observe his behaviour there.

I would get a second opinion. A lab off their food sounds like trouble to me. Its possible something has upset him, or it could be something more sinister you need to take action before it gets out of hand. So yeah - try a different vet, perhaps a neurological/behavioural specialist.

We did take him to our office one day, and he was doing somewhat the same thing, looking around, but he did seem perky. When we brought him home, he ran around like Mr. Tuff Stuff, and he threw Sandy, his girlfriend, into a tree after he was barking at her. Guess he tried to show her he was boss, is what we thought. He is eating special things, we cooked hamburger for him, he ate all of that, and some steak we mixed into his regular food, he eats that too. He loves his snacks, no problem with eating them. He has always been a problem child , but this is something altogether new for him and us.
