Our 7 year old chocolate lab has many problems, but this is new. When he lays down, his front and back paws shake constantly, whether he is awake or asleep. We cover him up, but its not a cold shiver, as he has had these before and I can tell this is different. He is also not eating on his own, so he has a vet appointment tomorrow, but this has us really worried. He has been a problem child since day one, the runt, always the odd ball. But we love him dearly and hate to see him upset like this. Any ideas on what could cause this? Oh, he also weighs 57 pounds, and we can't fatten him up yet. The vet suggests neutering, is this really a cure for skinny-ness?

The shaking I can't help with, it really is something for the vets I'm afraid.
The only reason a dog will put on weight after castration is because of lack of exercise, when a female is in heat a male will pace constantly, try to mate at least 6 or so times a day, and go off his food. My boy was so bad I could see all his ribs, quite a worry. I changed him to a high fat content biscuit, and extra tin food, which has more fat, puppy milk, even the odd tin of catfood, which is high in fat. Marrowbones are full of fat too. He is ok now, but only just keeping up there.

I love my labs.
