I really need to know how to care for Rascal .He's a 2yr. old border collie that has completed all his obiedence classes and was to start agility training when he collapsed playing frisby. he had complete exam and blood work. He's healty as a horse except for the sugar problem. What can I do with him as far as exercise goes ,and be safe. Any suggestions will greatfuly received. agilitytoy[Judy]

What did your vet recommend? In humans, it consists of eating several times a day - watching for triggers such as sweets, exactly the same as a diabetic without the need for insulin.

Did your vet advise you to provide more food before & after exercise? This should not be a condition to limit his mobility if managed correctly.

I would contact your vet with your concerns as only he knows how extreme the case is. I would be most interested in what he suggests.

Thank you for your reply. I willcheck with the vet,and ask more questions he really didn't act concerned.I guess it's like human doc's if you don't ask questions they don't take the time to inform you. agilitytoy

Have you had a chance to talk to your vet? Did he recommend a change in diet or frequency?

I was quite amazed to learn that dogs are prone to be diabetic as well. Excessive thirst, weight loss are all signs they may be diabetic.

Other than the one incident did your dog have any other symptoms?
