I adopted my dog from a shelter a year ago. I have a 7 year old collie. I recently had her to the vet for blood work. Her blood work came back with a high elevation of some enzyme that is related to the liver. She was placed on an antibiotic and blood work was repeated again two weeks later. The enzyme count had more than doubled. I also noticed that she was drinking a large amount of water. The vet thinks she may have chronic liver disease. She is scheduled to have a liver biopsy on Wednesday. I have never been so scared for my dog in my life. This has been really hard on me. I am a full-time college student who graduates in two weeks and is planning a wedding. Luckily, I have wonderful parents who have lent me the money for vet bills.
Anyway, my question is does anyone have an animal with this disease? What are your experiences with the disease? Is my dog going to suffer the rest of her life? How effective is the treatment? What can I expect with this disease?
Any information anyone could provide me would be appreciated.
