My newest dog Duke is having some problems with his back end. Both legs are sore. Both knees and then his right stifle. We x-rayed about a week ago and the vet said that everything looks good and healthy. She said to work on his muscle development and to keep his activity to a moderate level. This weekend he turned out very sore and was having a hard time standing up. Now today he is fine. I currently have him on glucosamine and the vet prescribed him anti-inflammartoies. Does anybody have any miracle solutions on how to get Duke his exericise and not pay for it later? I hate seeing any one of my labs in pain.
Also has anyone ever ran into something such as this? The xrays are clean so we can't pinpoint a medical problem but there is still something wrong. The vet said give it time...

How old is your dog. Is he a puppy. My Jada (boxer) had a similar problem when she was around 6 months. I thought she had broken her leg or something. I took her to the vet for x-rays and they came back fine. The vet told me that when you feed your puppy a high quality puppy food, and they are a larger dog, that sometimes it will accelerate their growth and they may get "growing pains". This is do to their much larger bone size.
Her pain only lasted a couple of days, and then she was right back to normal. If this is what is wrong, it is best just to let him rest until he is feeling up to running again.
Hope this helps.

Duke is a 1 1/2 year old lab that was poorly taken care off by his previous owner. We don't know anything of his history being that his owner dumped him at the vet to be put down. Right now I am clueless and I tired of people telling me that he should be put down because he is limping. I know that he is not in constant pain, just some of the time. I will truly do whatever I can to make him happy, but if one more person tells me, "He was dumped at the vet for a reason..." And this has come from other lab lovers! And he was dumped at the vet because his owners were careless and irresponsible not because he was unhealthy. I just don't understand it. When I took a free neglected dog I never thought that I wouldn't want him if he is broken. He deserves a chance at a happy life. Sorry to vent. I just know that there are plenty of you that understand that you do what it takes to take care of your furbabies.

Greta, we have something here in Oz called Sasha's Blend, I know of other Lab owners who swear by the stuff, it is expensive, but gets them mobile again, provided your vet ok's it for your dog it could be well worth a try. Is the weather where you are up and down, my Sophie has trouble in the winter here, but nothing in the summer, she jumps up on the porch, but finds it hard in winter and I have to put a ramp there for her. I would stick with your dog, regardless of what others say, if she is not in constant pain she can still live a long and happy life now that she has YOU!!!
-------------------- I love my labs.
