I was set on having my little maltese spayed by using laser surgery with another vet not my own. However, my vet said that laser surgery used a larger cut then traditional and was more painful, I was led to believe just the opposite. Has anyone done the laser surgery and if so is it the best way to go? Also, the vet that is going to do it using the laser said I could have it done at 4 months old but the other vet said 6 months old.

Kenny, I spoke to my vet that offers both. More money but they tell me:
a) less bleeding because it is cauterized right away. b) no sucutures (Spelling I know) c) Cut is NEVER bigger than with scaple. d) Healing time is faster e) More comfortable for pet ( survey says?)
I think this is the way I'm going to get Ariel done. She'll be ready first week of July.

Yes laser has got to be the way to go, I have not experienced this for our pet friends, but have had 2 operations myself with the new methods, healing time was cut to a third. I wish this was availble for mine, (PETS) especially on Friday, cause that's definately the way I would go for Sophie if I could.

yes you can have the pup done at an earlier age with laser surgery. A lot of shelters etc are doing it on ten week old puppies so they know they are neutered before they go to new homes. Lou

Lou3, have you had the laser surgery done for the spay? I would love to know more information about this. I trust my vet, but more info is always better than less.

i havent seen one done myself (as in been in the room or had one of my dogs done), its mainly in America that the technique is used although a few shelters over here are starting to do it. I have seen a dog that was speyed at a shelter and eight days later she was fit enough to play with my pointers. She was only 14 weeks when she was speyed. We are going to have one of my older brother's borzoi's lazer speyed in three weeks so i'll let you know! Lou
