We had him neutered on Wednesday and Thursday morning he had to sacks hanging back there. We called the vet, she told us to bring him in. We go, she looks and says it's hemiatoes (sp?) and that we should get him a jockstrap to support it. So we buy this jockstrap and rig it to the dog. (Picture two people trying to get a jockstrap on a 3 year old pitbull/lab) Friday I wake up and the HUGE, I call, she says bring him in. We go in she looks, and says I'll give you some Clavamox. And well today is today they have gone down a very little and I'm starting to think we should have never done this. We were never told there might be complications (I figured a vet has done this a million times), and I think they are going to just telling us we need this and this and this. I don't know what to do, I don't get paid until Thursday and I have no money to go somewhere else. Has anyone else had this problem?? I searched "neuter complications and don't see anything about it.

Sorry but I have always had female dogs, but complications for this procedure are very very small. From what you decide it sounds like blood is leaking into the area where the testicles where. Is that a fair assessment? And your vet should make sure all the bleeding no matter how minor has stopped before releasing the dog. Call them up & complain - the second and third trip should have been covered by them as post op care.

Please let us know if there is any improvement.

I dont know about this problem in particular but I just had Whiskey neutered friday, they keep him over night to keep stress to a minimum while coming out of anasthetic and also so they can observe the incision that day and the next morning, I am not sure about post op visits but I know the one to have stitches removed from Whiskeys dew clawsis included also givong them another chance to check all incisions,
How active was he alllowed to be?

I definately am of the opinion that your vet should not be charging you for these follow up visits as it obvious that there is bleeding that should have been controlled. Your vet should have no trouble waiting a few days (you could offer a post dated cheque to another vet) but I would only be willing to pay of medication or materials used not his/her time. For future work I'd find another vet.

Can anyone out there tell me if it makes sense to have someone support pockets of blood in a jock strap?

I suggest a second opinion.

When I had my male Moby neutered he was 2.5 years old and did have some swelling. I am a very nervous mother and took him in. They never charged me for any of the extra visits. Make you vet complete his service to you to make sure your dog is going to be healthy. Hope all ends well.

How is he doing? Well I just found out the hard way that my vet does include post op visits, I removed Whiskeys bandages from his dew claws and they swelled and bled a bit [Confused] so although she wasnt there i have a free visit in the morning.
