Topic: older puppy adjusting to new puppy

Help-
I have 2 mini schnauzers. Queso is 1 year old and we just added Chips and she is 2.5 months old. QUeso did well the first week, but yesterday she started showing some odd behaviors. I think she may be jealous and tired of the puppy messing with her. Plus, we moved into a new place about 3 weeks ago- and -she has allergies on top of that.
Any ideas?

She is sick and has undergone several changes recently, so she is probably a little stressed. The odd beavior may be her establishing the "pecking order" with your new pup.
Spend some extra time with her, and give her time to adjust to her new situations.

You don't really say what is odd about her behavior. Is she withdrawn, grumpy, peckish, can you describe what she's doing and what you think it is.

Behavior details -
wQueso is withdrawn, tail down (what there is of one) and quiet. She is not having accidents or chewing on things. Although, she did bark at the neighbor kids and stood at attention when I showed her a squirrel. I think she is a little depressed because she realizes they newbie is staying with us.
I gave Chips some bendryl (per vet's request) for the runny nose and it has helped.
The little one has the runs, but chips is getting better slowly...but she acts like nothing is wrong with her.

Dax (my 10yr old) reacted the same - it lasted about 2 weeks. It's just an adjustment period. Make sure to give lots of attention and time alone. It too many changes all at once. Let her growl at the pup to ensure her space is respected.

Hey thanks! That is good info. It just makes me so sad for Queso, but I am so happy we gave Chips a good home.

There's no need to feel sad. In about 2 months time, they will have become a pack. They will play together and sometimes it will seem that the young one would rather be with the older dog than you.
My dog is 10 years old well beyond playing with a 6 month pup. Yours will adjust and love the company once they get used to it. A little patience and allowing them space and time is the best way to handle it.

They girls are doing better. I've been trying to feed them separately and that has really helped Queso. I couldn't feed the little one-chips- all day yesterday and boy, was she hungry today! Last night she just sat by her bowl and waited off and on for food. (smart dog!)
I have also been taking them out at different time to let them potty, and when I bring one in the other one will run to them and start playing!

Well, it turns out my Queso had an upper respitory infection - I guess that explains some of the behaviors. I have been giving her some meds from the vet and she started playing with her sister last night and did much better today.
