My golden retriever is 5 1/2 weeks pregnant and today we wanted to take her on a 45 min trip to some dog friendly gardens. Would this be safe to have her in the car?

as long as she is normally a stress-free traveller i see no reason why it should be a problem. If she is distressed/travel sick/excited by the car it might not be such a great idea.

Also you might want to consider any other dog where you go, so long as she is unlikely to be attacked by another, all is ok, but I would slow down on the exercise, just gentle walks, short runs, bit of a swim, let her do what she is happy with, don't overtire her.
