I believe my english bulldog has cherry eyes (an inflammation of the third eyelid). You could actually see his tear glands pertruding! Sometimes its there but sometimes it not. I read in the net that it has to be surgically replaced. Has anyone here experienced this with their dog? how'd the surgery go? I'm freakin' scared coz we dont really have vets who specialize in opthalmology here so needless to say, I dont really trust our vets when it comes to surgeries like these. Can someone give me any feedback or advice on this condition. thanks!

I had a **** -a-poo who had the same thing or sounds like. It was surgically removed (TWICE) by a normal vet.
However, the second one's biopsy showed cancer. Although she never got it again on her eyes, she eventually showed signs of cancer existance in other parts of her body.
I believe (if memory serves me anymore) that they tried non-surgical procedure first - drops.
Make an appt. with your vet, as this was almost 16+ years ago so new procedures may have been developed.

Vader our Great Dane had this done a couple months ago. They become real red sometimes & people would always ask on our walks "What is wrong with his eyes?" Anyhow, our Vet tried the drops first & it didn't do a thing.
We scheduled his surgery & his eyes look PERFECT now. I had to put drops in for about a week so he wouldn't experience dry eye. And we haven't had ANY problems. I'm so glad we did it! Cost was about $150 here. Good luck!
