i was reading that one should place the poo from an area that is not allowed to be pooed on to an area that is allowed, my question is .....is there anything that will cover or eliminate that smell of poo being placed there so that the pup will not keep going there?

There are many carpet cleaning products that will work if it's on carpet.

I've found that spraying a mixture of water and ammonia on the spot will keep the dog from going there again. Apparently they hate the smell of ammonia (can't blame them)

I just use normal carpet cleaner - it seems to work OK. Try blocking off the part of the room where the dog goes - then it'll have to find a new spot - hopefully outside!

If you have ever been around human babies, and changed diapers, (showing my age) you will remember the smell of ammonia, we use resolve on carpet, or tile with excellent results, ammonia in my opinion seems to attract them back. There are a large number of cleaners out there that work great for this, another more common one in chlorophyll, it will mask most anything

Vanilla in soapy water works for me.

Usually you can tell if a dog is going to do it a s they go into there sniff mood and sniff in the usual corners.
