ok, i am looking forward to fencing in my yard for not only my dogs, but my kids as well, i am looking to put up a 4 1/2' tall fence, the fence lenghth is 300 yards+... i do have a couple questions if you guys could help me i would greatly appreciate it.

1.) how can i stop my dogs from climbing up the fence to get out or stop other dogs from climbing the fence to get in?

2.) i am wanting to put an electric fence about 1'(if not lower) off the ground on the outside of the fence, would that stop any dogs on either side of the fence from diggin under it to get in or out?

3.) this has nothing to do really with fencing, but to do with lanoleum... BOTH of my dogs (6mos & 7mos of age) love eating my lanoleum and my wallpaper in my bathroom, i know the smart thing would be to get a crate but i priced one yesterday for both of them and i simply dont have almost $400 to get crates for my dogs.. what can i do to keep my dogs from tareing my bathroom up, i mean i already have to replace the wallpaper, but i really dont want to have to replace the lanoleum that until just recently was in perfect condition.

PLEASE HELP i dont know what to do...

Well dogs aren't really avid fence climbers. I wouldn't really worry about it if I were you. As for the crates, they shouldn't be that much...I know you have larger dogs, but just how large of a crate were you looking at? They only have to have enough to stand up and turn around.

We put electric fence around our flower beds because our youngest has a thing for woody plants. [Frown] It's worked extremely well in keeping him from getting into things. It's just about chest-height, and he hasn't tried once to dig under or go over.

Oh, have you thought about trying bitter apple or something similar until you can get the crates?

i had the same problem with my lanoleum. what i did was take the lanoleum up and replace it with these flexable tiles. they are inexpennsive i paid about $7 for a box of 30 tiles. the tiles have glue on the under side of it but its not strong enough so i bought a bucket of glue from home depot called contact cement or something like that.they wont be able to rip that off the ground.

dawn, the crates we looked at was $200, but they was only big enough for 1 dog, and that was iffy. it wasnt a very big crate. they had a little bit bigger one, but it was to small to fit both of them in.. freedom(rottie) is already getting huge, she is younger than angel and is already bigger than her, and isnt done growing yet.. angel is a little bit bigger than a bluetick heeler, she also has a broader build than a bluetick... it's hard to describe my pups, i dont have any truely recent pics, but i have some older ones. they have grown A LOT since the pics have been taken, i will post some here shortly.. gotta set it up first..

bear: chest high on my dogs is about 1' so i guess i wasnt to far off, i have heard of dogs climbing fences, actually my hubbys old rottie did, she climbed out of EVERYTHING. i mean even cages 6' and higher, he had to put a chain length top on her cage to keep her in it, then she litterally CHEWED her way out of the cage.. she was well trained, she is the one who changed my outlook on rotties, she was an angel in every way.. but jim could never figure out why she did that other than she wanted out to play with the other doggies in the neighborhood... from what i did see of princess i wouldnt doubt that for a second...

We, just today, have installed a Dog Watch underground wired fence for Freckles to have full access to about an acre around our house (too keep her from the road on one side and pasture on the other). We have seen it work with our friend's dogs and others in the area. It will be a couple of weeks working with her before she can have absolute freedom, but I was amazed that with the trainer today it only took one "visit" into the zone and all we have had to do since is point at the temporary flags and she goes down. We have walked the perimeter twice on leash and she stays well within the safe zone already. It is however, going to take the 2 weeks of reassurence and training for ME to be ready though [Big Grin]
It will be so great to have her free to join me in my yard work. So far everyone I have talked with is totally happy with the results they have had. I will keep you aprised of the results with Freckles.

mojo, how big in square are the tiles? i may look into it, i mean i am gonna have to do something to keep them from tareing everything up, i kinda need to replace it anyways i have to get under there to look at the floor under the toilet. and also does it come in different patterns/colors?

freckles, PLEASE do keep me informed, we have been looking at one of those too, we still will fence in the yard for the simple fact of the kids, UNLESS we can use one of those colors on the kids too. [Big Grin] [Eek!]

I know what squares she's talking about. Never used them though. I believe that (just guessing) they're 8 in square. Seems right anyway.

Dog Crates

These are on sale right now. Not sure of the exact size you're looking at, but these aren't horribly expensive even reg. priced. I'll look around a bit more though.

More Pet Crates
There's another. I don't like them as well though, and they seem to be slightly more expensive.

I think that ours might have been slightly more expensive than those are, but not by much. The ones at our tsc are definately more expensive than anywhere else, not sure why.

I have 4 crates, 2 large size ones for my golden & 1 ea. of lg. med. & sm. for occasional foster dogs. I got the small one at a garage sale for $5, the others came from a farm supply store & as I recall the largest of them was only around $50-$60.
