Im a new dog owner and got my shits zu when he was just 6weeks old. I live in an apartment and fortunately for me, he has learned to pee and poop in the newspaper once there is one in sight but once I am unable to lay down a paper, he will pee and poop just anywhere. How do i train him to pee and poop only in paper and hopefully control himself until he finds one? Also, how old does a puppy have to be in order to really absorb instructions. Could it be that he's just too young to control or really understand training? He's presently 9weeks old. Thanks!

My puppy currently at 12 weeks just now started to be able to hold it. (i.e. dosent pee in his crate anymore and will go to the door, but if i dont see him at the door and dont tke him out right then and there he will tinkle a little). So really the only advice I could give you is when ever you see him/her start to pee say in a stern voice no and place the pup on the paper and when the pup goes on the paper praise praise praise. Eventually he/she will get the hang of it. I know its a pain in the butt wiping up pee all the time but its what we gotta do. What are you doing with the pup when you are not there?? And when are you going to start introducing the outdoors to it??

Well, here in Manila we normally have maids so during the few times when I'm out, it's usually our maid who takes care of him. She loves him to death so I know he's in good hands when she's around but just like me, this is also her first time to really take care of a dog so were both quite struggling. Regarding outdoors, I live on the 17th floor of our condominium so the only outdoor I can give him on a daily basis is our balcony where he coincidentally sleeps and eats in. But thanks so much for your tip on lotsa praise....i'll remember to do that! Thanks!

Nine weeks is still pretty young. It's not uncommon for puppies 4-5 months old to still have accidents. Be patient. Be as consistent as you can, and give lots and lots of praise, and he'll get it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips and help guys! Regarding paper training, I'm compelled to do that coz i dont have a lawn to bring him out every now and then so thats the only type of training i can think of that suit my living condition. Any other type you suggest?
