my pup is almost 15 weeks, and he was doing so well with potty training for about 2 weeks he was going to the door and everything. but all of a sudden on sunday its like he forgot everything that he is supposed to do, he went to the bathroom several times in the house. Does anyone know why this has happeded. The only thing i can think of is: He has got into the habit of knowing when I'm going to put him in his crate, I make him and my other dog go outside to pee then when i open the door he will run as fast as he can past me and up the stairs ( his crate is downstairs) even if I'm not getting ready to leave he does this. Do you think he compares going outside to being put in his crate??? and therefore dosent want to go outside anymore to pee??
And also what are some recomedations of how to keep him away from my cats food, he knows hes not supposed to do that but cant resist.
Thanks

yes it sounds like he has definately started to associate going outside to pee with being put in his crate. It is recommended when crate training that you take the dog for a walk or give them the run of the house after they pee outside and confine them only when they pee inside (or at night/when you're out etc). keeping a dog away from cat food is impossible - believe me i've tried, eventually i just got rid of the cat! After he goes outside, you should play with him inside before recrating him. If he doesn't go when you take him out though, you can go ahead and put him back in the crate. Also, you need to make the crate a good place. It's supposed to be their home and bed.

Yes I agree, on first reading I immediately thought something has frightened your puppy. You need to go outside with him and praise him when he does the right thing, then bring him back inside. The cats food, you don't need to be so drastic as to get rid of the cat, they are able to jump quite high, I put my cats feed up on a bench in the laundry where a small pup can't reach it. Now my lab 2 yrs, won't go near it unless I give the command o.k. Hope that helps!!!
