Hello,

We just recently adopted a black lab that is 2 1/2 years old. She is wonderful. She is really smart and loves to fetch. She has a ton of energy. Her came from field trial champions and has great breeding. What I am wondering do you think she could be taught to do agility. She loves new things and learns quickly and if so how would i go about learning. I want something that we could do together and she would enjoy. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Karlie ")

Couldn't hurt to try it. If either of you don't like it you can always quit.

Here is a fun site: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/5952/home.html

That is basically for tricks-commands to do with your dog. Our Great Dane loves it when I pull the bag of treats out & clip it to my jeans. I get his undivided attention.

As far as agility. We haven't done that yet. There is a place where we went for puppy obedience classes where you can sign up for agility. Do you have a place close by that offers that?

Good luck........... [Smile]

I've never seen a Mastiff do it but Conan might.
What they have is weave poles, tunnels, bridges, etc. and once you have the basics down you can compete (timed trials).

TOO early @ 12 weeks to think about. Where you take obidence classes they might offer it.

beware, this is not a border collie.
labs are very strong dogs and heavy.i have a 90 lb blk lab.that hurt her leg jumping in the air for a ball.
over 800 dollars for the operation to repair her leg.retrieving is fine.jumping in mid air to catch something could cost you.

agility for labs isnt the best idea on the world cause of their weight and build, can cause joint problems cause they arent really designed to jump. Flyball might be option or high-level obediance. Best thing to do with a gun-dog is retrieve exercises though, is there a local club near you that you could look into?

she is very small for a lab, and is really skinny. She doesn't have the typical stocking lab built. She is built taller and looks more like a grey hound. We joined started our first agility class on Tuesday and so far so good! I think we are both going to have a blast.
