Okay, I have heard this works for introducing them, but I'd really appreciate if you guys could back it up for me, or, tell me other wise.

Here is the 'method':

Take the cats and place them in a special room where you will not take the dog. Then, show the dog around the house, making sure to leave his scent. Then, take the cats out of the room, and take them around, letting them smell the dog's scent.

I'm not quite sure what this method is supposed to do. Maybe someone could clear it up for me? lol.

Thanks.

It is supposed to make the cat feel comfortable with the new smell and associate it with nothing more than a scent that she is living in. And when the cat sees the dog, she will not be threatened by the dog because she recognizes the smell.
Nonetheless, it depends on how well the cat adapt to the change. I never did any special procedure to introduce my puppy to my 3 cats. I just let them smell each other right away, and they all get along very well very soon, except for one, which took him a bit longer to get used to.

We've had our dog for two weeks now. Our cats still pretty much hate her. Though they are getting a little more tolerant... they can be in the same room now... though if she comes anywhere near them, they will hiss and growl and swat at her.

One of my cats, Shadow, will walk right in front of her, to provoke her, knowing that we will call Shasta and get upset at her if she runs after Shadow... Shadow is such a brat!

I have two dogs and four cats. The one kitten was the last edition to the family. She had no problem with the dogs. Before her, we got the two dogs, about a month apart. My three other cats reacted very differently. The youngest one accepted immediately, no getting used to a scent or anything (it’s the first time I hear of it! Guess I read too little! [Blushing] ). The second eldest took a little longer to adapt, about a month or two but she’s fine now.

My eldest is a BIG problem. This is now almost 10 months later and she is so scared of my Chow and Yorkie, it looks like she can have a heart attack at any moment when one of them is near! When one of them is in a room where she decided SHE wants to be, she will jump on something high and start to meow until the dog is gone. When one of them is just looking at her she will meow and hiss at them until they leave! I must admit, she also does not like the other cats. And this is now been about 5 years and she still hates my second eldest cat as well!

She is 10 years old now, so I guess she won’t change. She’s a Siamese mix and very “uptight”, a snob really! But I have noticed something strange though, sometimes I walk in on her and there she lies, cuddled up close in the sun with my Yorkie or giving one of the other cats a bath…
