WE PURCHASED A 7 MONTH PUPPY (AUSSIE/BORDER COLLIE) 3 MONTHS AGO, SHE LIKES TO POOP ON THE GRASS. I AM TRYING TO TRAIN HER TO POOP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE YARD WHICH IS DIRT. I ALSO HAVE A 10YR OLD AUSSIE WHO POOPS WHERE HE IS SUPPOSE TO. SO I MADE THE MISTAKE OF THINKING SHE WOULD FOLLOW HIS LEAD AND POOP DOWN THERE TOO. WHICH SHE DIDN'T. I HAVE TRIED TO PUT HER POOP DOWN THERE. HAVE PUT COW MANURE OVER THE GRASS SO SHE CAN'T SMELL HER ODOR. HAVE TRIED TO SUPERVISE HER AFTER SHE ATE. BUT SHE WILL NOT GO WHEN SOMEONE IS WATCHING HER. HOW DO I GET HER TO POOP AT THE BOTTOM OF YARD?

Put on her lead and go with her. Gently lead her to the spot where you want her to go. Take her there at the same time every day and every time she needs to go (morning, lunch time, night.) She will get the idea eventually. Also, your caps lock key is on, or, are you trying to shout at us?

Just a question. I can't imagine letting dog poop build up in any location without risks to health for the community. Definitely it attracts flies, which wind up in everyone's homes on plates and on tables. Wouldn't it be better, easier and safer to just pick up after your dogs?

Make sure the leash and collar is on so that you are in control the whole time. Have a Nice sized ball bell tied to a rope and tied to the door. Take her paw and get her to hit the bell so it makes a sound. Only do this when you are taking her to go potty. In doing this she will later learn to hit the bell to let you know she needs to go outside to relieve herself. Now open the door and take her to the potty pen. Give the command for going potty every 30 seconds for five minutes. If the puppy goes then click the clicker and praise and give her a piece of kibble. If not put the puppy back in it’s crate for 10 minutes. Then try again. Keep this up till the puppy goes. No punishment and lots of praise to help the puppy gain confidence. Do this each and every time.

I know you use a dirt area but it is the same concept as my puppy potty pen idea. Sheena is now 5 months old and will go no where else. She will stop playing in the yard to run into the potty pen and go then leave it to go play. I have used this technique on all my foster dogs and puppies and it has yet to not work. Some dogs take a lot longer than others but they all learn. You just need to be consistent.

Lets teach the public to spay and neuter pets and leave breeding up to the experts, to help decrease the thousands of animals destroyed monthly in shelters and pounds around the world.
