They should enter willing as it is THEIR CAVE. A couple pieces of weiner will encourage them to enter and it being nice & dark & secure should encourage them to use it.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY!

I HAVE TRIED THAT. HE WILL NOT GO IN.

I WAS THINKING OF TAKING THE TOP OFF , AND PUTTING A BLANKET INSIDE. JUST TO SEE IF HE
WOULD GO IN. THEN LATER PUT THE TOP BACK ON.

I won't nor would I force him. He's 6 so he's a grown animal. I would place favorite toys in, etc. and then leave him alone with it.

Do you want him to sleep in it overnite? Or just in case of bad weather when he's outside. If it is his only shelter - he will use it.

was he living in your house befor? if he was, then he must really be attatched to you so you might want to leave one of your old shirts or any item that has your scent on it inside the dog house. also leave items that he is familliar with inside his house when he is ready he will go in.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLIES:

HE LIVES IN OUR HOUSE. I AM TRYING TO CUT DOWN
ON THE MUD IN MY HOUSE WHEN IT RAINS. I COULD
PUT THE DOG HOUSE DOWN STAIRS FOR A BED WHILE HE
IS WAITING TO DRY.

WHILE WE ARE AWAY I WOULD LIKE FOR HIM TO HAVE
A PLACE TO BE. SO HE WON'T BE IN THE LIVING
AREA.

HE IS A GOOD DOG. HE LOVES THE KIDS OF ALL AGES.
HE IS A GOOD GUARD DOG. HE HAS A BIG HEART WITH
HIS FAMILY.

I FEEL BAD HE HAS TO STAY DOWN STAIRS WHEN WE ARE
GONE. HE IS REAL HONNARY. SO I WAS TRYING TO
MAKE IT BETTER FOR HIM.

Have you tried teaching him to wipe his feet. NO --NOT KIDDING. You sound like he comes in & out at will that's why he has muddy feet. Some dogs wipe their feet after going potty so the behavior has to be teachable. If you could get him to "wipe" on old carpet or towel, etc., your problem could be solved. I still believe that if you left him outside in the rain, he'll either get wet or use the dog house. I keep an old towel by the door when it snows or gets muddy and my dogs will suffer me drying their feet and bodies before they get to come into the "nice" part of the house
