I just went to the dog shelter near by and got a silky terrier. He is 10 months old and is crate trained (will not poop or pee in cage). When I take him out we go stright outside and I give in at least 10 min. Sometimes he goes sometimes he doesn't. But I guess the thing that troubles me is that he does not mark out side and never sniffs around to go potty. He will just go while walking. Like he gets the urge no matter where inside, outside and just goes. He never sniffs around looking for a good place. He also vomits after drinking to much water. Please oh please help me I have run out of ideas. Thanks a bunch [Smile]

This could be a territorial thing, couple of questions to help narrow down your problem.
At what age was he castrated?
Is he castrated?
Do you have any other animals in your home?
Is it only pee or is it poos as well?

thank you for your help. Yes he has been castrated and I am not sure when I just got him from a dog shelter his owner had to move and could not take him. We do have one other dog in the house Lester a mini schnauzer male as well. It is both poo and pee. It is just so odd he does it sometimes just while walking like he doesn't really care.

O.K. one more question, does he lift his leg, or does he sqwat to pee?

O.K. that tells me he was castrated early, being before sexual maturity, so it is unlikely to be a territorial thing. So going on that assumption, I would guess he has never been housetrained. You are going to have to start from the basics I'm afraid, and do a complete housetraing program. Meaning that he was probably crated inside and only allowed free roaming outside.

thanks for your help. Do you have and suggestions on training? Should I just stop using the crate? My other dog has the run of the house and never goes potty in the house I only crated this dog because he profile from the shelter said he was crate trained.

If you want him to have free run of the house the same as your other dog, and you are at home, or someone else then yes, take the crate away. You are going to find it long and time consuming as he is and older dog, but stick with it, it can be done. First of all, confine him to a small area, one with a floor that is easy to clean. Then when you hear him drink, or give him something to eat, put him outside in the same spot everytime, if he does business, make a big fuss and praise. You will probably have to put him out about once every couple of hours, same spot, same proceedure. If your other dog has a favourite spot, put him there, the smell should encourage him to go in the same place. You could use your crate at night, till you have him fully trained.
