hi i have a sixteen month old poodle who averages about 6 walks a day! i've trained him to sit by the door when he needs to go out but he does it so frequently and really gets antsy if i try to ignore it. the thing is he always produces when i take him out...but is there any way to get him down to LESS walks? most of my friends only have to walk their dogs twice a day. help!

If your dog wants to go outside for a walk take him out.(if you have the time) If he really likes to go out that is GREAT.It's awesome that he loves to be outdoors so much.If it becomes a real problem for you invest in a crate & when he starts getting antsy about it place him in the crate until it is a convienant time for you. Then take him out for a walk.If you can take him to the park & let him run around, then maybe he won't need to go outside for walks as often. Good Luck!!! If you need any more help just let me know & I'll be happy to help.Keep us posted on his progress.

how long do the walks average? A poodle is actually a very active breed, they were a working breed long before they were a pet breed. I reckon if you increase the length of the two main walks to 45mins - 1hr then just let him out long enough to go to the toilet at other times he should be fine. When a dog's gotta go a dog's gotta go. Hopefully with more exercise he wont be so keen to go out "between" walks. Lou

thanks for the comments guys! yah he is a really hyper guy plus we live in an apartment so that's probably why he wants to go out so much. i was thinking about trying to take him out for longer walks...i started running with him recently too so hopefully that will help. i just wanted to see if maybe it was unnatural for him to go so much.
