hey guys, i just joined yesterday and got approved today. [Big Grin]

i have been deciding on getting a new dog since last december and I have been reading quite alot about them on the internet..

i have finally conviced my mom to let me own one (with all the responsibilites put on me).

but you know, there are always drawbacks when you make agreements with your parents. she said I cannot get a large dog because my brother has a large dog and she doesnt like it pushing her around and can nearly knock her down.. lol. so i have to get a little dog.

I came up with border collie but with every online "dog match" i have taken, i have came up with some sort of terrier (fox terrier & jack russell terrier/parson russell terrier).

Now, i really like the jack russell terriers, but what i wnat to know is do all small dogs tend to like to run away? and does anyone have jrt/prt in here?

I've heard that JRT's are small dogs who think they're big dogs. I've read that they're very energetic. I think most online tests that I've taken have been fairly accurate. The sheltie is usually number 3 or 2 on my lists...and all the other breeds I considered on the list. But, don't set your standards on those online tests alone. If you think a border collie is for you, talk to breeders and fellow border collie lovers...I'm actually very fond of borders..they're my favourite breed. I dont' think a border collie is a good first dog though. They can be quite challenging.

I don't know how big or what breed your brothers dog is, but you will have to take that into consideration when picking your dog.

Border collies are quite a challenging dog especially for a first time owner. If you like them may I suggest an Austrailian sheperd?Very much alike but also a better first time dog. What breed is the other dog?

I have always been a big breed dog. But, once I own a female dachshund mix. She was one smart dog. I loved that dog.

I just love shelties. My sister had one she named Raider. This dog was her constant companion.

I had a border collie mix when I was in high school. He was a good dog too.

I love cats too.

JRT are really really really hyper (annoying i think) and BC's need ALOT of room to run just like Aussie's there herding dogs if you have a farm then you should get an aussie i love mutts thats my favret thing im getting a mutt soon really cute hehe but if you have a smaller house and yard DONT get a bc they can get mean if they dont have alot of room to run and play! if your wanting a really hyper yelpy doggy get the JRT!!

Hi am new to this site also..there are many variables about your choice of dig. I am a lover of big dogs, and like small dogs, they need to be trained!! I agree with other comments about a border collie...that is a dog that needs a lot of room to run, or a least to get some good exercise, that is what they are bred for, to work, and when they have to be restrained, they will get antsy, I always think that JRT need a lot of attention, as they are very "yippy" and a little to "overly energetic" for my tastes. There are many places you can go on line, librbary, etc., to get collective facts about all breeds as far as the USUAL TEMPERMENTS AND REQUIREMENTS FOR EVERY BREED. I have friends with JRT and they are good, all of them are "jumpers" and all of them are "yippers" GOOD LUCK, mastiffmom2

Well what type of yard do you have? Big? Small? You also need to look at your brothers dog. Does he get along with other dogs? Is he territorial? OR aggressive towards other dogs? What kind of dog are you looking for? Hyper, Layed back, lazy....JRT's are very engergetic and need quit a bit of attention. I like the big breeds but i also used to own a pug. And they are nice dogs. They aren't too active. If your not interested in getting a pure bred. then you could go to a animal Shelter and pick out a nice little dog. Just be sure that it is something that fits YOU.

Border Collies tend to be mostly bigger dogs, I would advise you get a dog either out of the toy group or a terrier. They are the smaller breeds.
