now and then I like to prepare a different meal for my 18 month old mastiff. I still incorporate some of her regular large puppy food, but like to add some cooked hamburger, cooked chicken and lately canned salmon. What are your opinions on the salmon, tuna or any fish bein g added. She loves the salmon, but is it a good choice or not?

I'm really not sure, I guess it is ok for you to add the extra ingredients, but I wouldn't recommend you add them everyday.

what does anyone know about adding fish: i.e. salmon, tuna or haddock to a dogs diet. I want to feed goof omega fats, or should I say healthy fat to her. When I mix with regular food I do reduce the amount of the kibble. How about rice: she loves cooked rice, any input you have would be good. Also, my friends are big into LINOTENE, either liquid or tablet, seems to me that could bea lot of fats, she is still growing and I want to give her bones, joints and cartilage a good healthy start. She is a big dog and they can be prone to joint injuries and hip problems. [Big Grin]

Just a tip about the bones.-If you are going to feed him bones make sure they aren't small enough for him to choke on. They have to be a bigger size as there is a choking hazard.

I tried feeding my husky rice for a little bit to harden up his stools (didn't work) - but I also gave my other dog some too. You know - everything has to be equal.

Our other dog did fine on having a little rice - and my vet did recommend it for the husky - so it's not bad for dogs (just keep an eye on what comes out the other end - to make sure everything agrees with his tummy)
