I am really getting sick of this dog training thing!!!!!1 I have a 1-2 year old standard dachshund that was a stray we adopted from a shelter. We have him fenced in the back porch where his food, potty pad, and blanket are. He sleeps here at night and we let him outside in the morning until he does his business. Then we bring him back in. A couple of times he has "marked his spot" on corners of walls. I have been told he may quit doing this as soon as I have him neutered. Am I doing this all right? Can a standard dachshund live outside? If so for all seasons? He is smoothe coat! Also, I have heard that if you feed a dog a certain brand of dog food that he will poop less, is this true?
Thanks for any info! Jill

Yes, neutering might work. Yes, food can make a difference. Iams causes less stool. No, they cannot live outside. Keep trying. That breed is hard to train.

Nutro makes a kind of food called Natural Choice. The kind for sensitive stomachs says it produces less stool. But poo is a part of life with dogs. Look on the bright side, at least he's little - big dogs make a lot bigger messes.
Getting him neutered will help with the marking - but it may take some training from you also to get him to stop. Good Luck.

We have fed Nutro Natural Choice and Nutro Max. They are both very good foods. Feed the Natural Choice if you can. Ummmm...our's wouldn't eat it so I'd say that it doesn't taste quite as yummy as the Max. It is just a bit on the expensive side, but not overly. The reason that don't poo as much is because they don't have to eat as much because it is more calorie and nutritionallly dense.
