I have a 50-lb Fox Hound mix and was able to take him to a normal obedience class. Does any know about classes/techniques for small dogs ... 5 or 6lb chihuahua? Thanks.

Obediance training for all breeds is exactly the same. A chihauhua should be able to perform all the same commands as a larger dog and therefore should attend a regular abediance class. Lou

Would she need different equipment? I used a chain collar on my larger dog.

a rolled leather collar should be sufficient for any dog. Other collars are just for aiding control of larger dogs, you wont need it on a chihauhau. Just a well fitted leather or webbing collar should be fine (with appropriate lead of course) Also i know this is nothing to do with your original question but please dont use a choke chain on your larger dog all the time, just for proper training sessions. Its not good for them to use them all the time, if he pulls when you are walking a gentle leader or halti will be much more effective - and better for the dog. Hope this helps Lou

If used properly, a chain will not harm a larger dog. However, you shouldn't use one on a smaller dog. They're bones are smaller and it's just easier to injure something. I only walk our little ones in harnesses.

The class I have my dog in recommends a collar called a martingale for a smaller dog. They can't slip out of it, but it doesn't choke them like a chain would.
