I have a 6 year old staffordshire bull terrier called denzil,he is good as gold with people but not great with other dogs . Iam thinking of getting a english bull terrier (pup) as a mate is this a good idea ???
Will this be doing him a favour or not ??

Try to start socializing him with others first. Obedience class, or controlled at a dog park. Also, if you do chose to get a pup, do not introduce them at your home. This will make you 6 year old aggressive right off the bat since he will be defending his area. Introduce him in a neutral area.

Most adult dogs should not aggressively attack a puppy. They may growl and snap to teach the puppy its limits but should not attack.

When checking into a breeder/adoption check to make sure they will take the puppy back if things don't work out with your other dog

You already have this dog, you know he doesn't get along well with other dogs, it's not fair to get a new one. You've already made a commitment to him, and since he doesn't like dogs, you're getting the new one for you, not him.

Staffies are famously wary of other dogs, however should be alright with a puppy as long as they are carefully introduced. Many years ago i had a dog that was difficult with other dogs and we got a terrier pup (8wks old) who she was absolutely over the moon with, she never got jealous once (which was her main problem with other dogs).

a few weeks ago i introduced my 3yr old rottie which is not really good with ohter dogs to a 7 wk old pit bull at first Lexus(the rott) was very jealous, did not want him around me or her and she was acting very puppy like, i guess showing us "hey i can still be a puppy why do we need him" but now after 2 weeks they are best buds, but if the pup does cross his boundaries Lexus does let him know she, dosent hurt him mostly growls and shows her teeth, I've only heard him yelp 2 times after she showed him who was boss. She is his protetcor now, they went to the vet and an adult pitt growled at the puppy and Lexus growled back at him. so now shes at the point where she dosent want anything around him. So what im getting at is I think you would be ok getting a puppy just closely supervise for the first few weeks, dont leave them alone together. B/c enev not on purpose an adult dog could kill a puppy
