whats the deal. i was debating getting either an american bulldog, or a dogue de bordeaux, i have previosuly owned a pitbull (about 60 pounds) and rottweiler (about 105), but never a mastiff, or bulldog breed. if any body has any suggestions, please let me know. i have limited space (one bedroom apartment) but i dont mind going for a run, or working out with a dog. my pitbull got confiscated by the local spca (they were banned in the county a few years ago), so im now looking for something along the same temperment, with a working drive, good protection isntinct, any advice is appreciated.

Hi,
Just read your post and wanted to tell you that I have seen ABD in action....they are lovely dogs who are extreemly loyal....A good friend of ours has one and they are very loving and great with people....I have 3 kids and was cautious at first but wouldnt hesitate to own one after the experience that we have had....they do require alot of food/exercise....so be sure that you can make a commitment to its needs....a 1 bdr apt can be crowded and they love to be outdoors...I am assuming that you dont have a fenced yard....so you need to plan on spending alot of time outside...if you work be sure that you have lots of entertainment for her......hate the idea of dog being locked alone in house all day with no company.....check your spca and see if you can rescue one....than you are saving a life...

what about a staffordshire bull terrier - great dogs, require a lot of exercise but are very loving and usually good with kids. They can have problems with other dogs though so early socialisation is an absolute must. Lou

the staffordshire is illegal in my area (as are all variations of a pitbull or a dog resembling a pitbull), i like the boxer, but i really like a bigger dog, something diffrent

How about a grand bleu de gascoigne? thats a bit different. or an italian spinone, both great breeds. Schnauzers have a keen temperament also.

hi i own a five month old female american bulldog, ond a five year old american bulldog/pit bull cross. i purchased her from barbers bulldogs. the abd have a similar temparament to pit bulls. they are very protective, not to be confused with being aggressive. i was just informed today that another litter my be born today so check thier web site out.i do agree with ladibugz_mom about adopting but not everyone wants a croosbreed, its up to your personal preference. http://www.barbersbulldogs.com/index.html

it is worth it. his bulldogs have a good pedigree and good conformation. of course if you look around you might be able to find a beter quality bulldog but not in his price range. he honestly has a few nice dogs, the sire to my pup wieghs near 130 pounds, and the service that you recieve is amazing it dosen't end when you get the dog. he will continue to follow up on his pups and will gladly answer any questions that you may have. i live in new york and he drove all the way from west virgina to deliver my pup for about $70. when i got the pup she wasn't shy so i could tell that they spend some time sociaizing them. if you have any specific questions about his kennel let me know.

i don know what you mean by who my dog was bred from, but the dam is uno and the shire is rocco, the breeder was darnell barber.i dont have any pic, my dijital cam is broken.i wouldn't say that i'm EXPERIENCED with ab's but as i said befor i own an ab/pit bull mix for almost four years he is five but i got him when he was about 1 1/2 yers old. i found out about barbers kennel from researching ab breeders for countless weeks. if you are willing to spend more money there are a few other breeder that i found with quality bulldogs: big block bullies, something special bulldogs, bloodline american bulldogs. they all have web sites. i have never dealt with any of them but when i'm ready to buy a pup to be used for stud purposes, something special bulldogs will be my first choice. in my opinion they have the absolute best ab's(i should get paid for this advertisement ).
i believe that anyone who raised pit bulls will love this breed. they are very alike. i also once owned a few pits and breed them a few times. [ January 13, 2004, 10:02 AM: Message edited by: mojo ]
