You should talk to your vet and see what you can give him to calm him. Some recommend Benedryl, but I would be very cautious with a dog that small. You would definately need your vet to tell you how much. Some recommend an antinausea med, and you would have to get it from your vet. It all depends on if it's motion sickness or anxiety

if hes drooling like that, hes one step away from vomiting, if you get him accustomed (sp) to car travel, he should eventually get out of that stage. you may have a few accidents, but he will be alright

Are you sure it's motion sickness?
A lot of times when I'm cooking or eating something, he'll sit and stare at me and drool will be reaching the ground (8-9 inches). He's done this for 14 years. It's really gross, but I just wipe it off and try to ignore it. [ January 21, 2004, 09:41 AM: Message edited by: bearsmom ]

That is a thought, do you normally get him something to eat when you go out? My dog drools when he gets to go for a ride, but just because when he was a puppy, he went to work with my dad every day. On the way to work, dad would go through McDonalds and get a sausage biscuit to share with him. Of course, if he throws up sometimes, it's more likely to be nervousness or motion sickness.

I'm pretty sure that it is motion sickness because when he is in the car he gets really stiff like he is nervous and if it is a long trip he will eventually throw up and he cries but I can tell he just doesn't like to get in the car if he knows he is going to go in the car he runs from me...

Try letting him get used to the car - without actually going for a ride. Once a day - take your dog out - and just sit in the car. Make sure to give him lots of treats and praise. Eventually he'll learn that the car is a fun place to be.
Also - on the subject of car rides. Always make sure that your windows are up - or open a crack. I was taking our last dog, Wilson, to obedience training. I had the window maybe halfway down. He had trouble getting his big head in and out of it - so I didn't really worry. Well - on a busy street going 35 mph - he jumped out. I grabbed his tail to try and stop him - but by the time I realized what was going on it was too late. Luckily - he didn't have any serious injuries - just some road rash. It definately shook me up though. I went into class just bawling. The instructor checked over Wilson - and gave me some antibiotic cream to put on his wounds. He said that Wilson was fine - and probably could have stayed for class. I, on the oother hand, needed to go home. I spent the next 1/2hr driving home - crying & hugging Wilson (with the windows rolled up!).
