Is anyone familiar (maybe Lou in UK?) with the Red Merle Border Collie? I was browsing the Border Collie website and viewing some pictures and descriptions and came across this description of a Border Collie. The picture shown was the very image of Freckles!!! and it was said he was from champion stock... I had been led to believe Freckles is a mix of perhaps Border and Red Heeler.. but, I could not get over the cookie cutter resemblance. But, I have never heard of this segment of the breed. I'd love to hear any info you all might have (you all...excuse..I am from Texas, ya know)...

Very cool! My handy-dandy little book shows the red merle as a color for border collies. We have gobs of border collies around here (lots and lots of sheep), but I've only seen red and black. I be a merle would be neat-looking.

Collies in the uk some in all sorts of colours, the only real stipulation is that white should not dominate. I have seen a few red merles, they compete against the more traditional black and whites and black and tans in shows so follow the same breed standard.

I almost fell off my chair.... she is the identical twin of our Freckles!!!! Freckles has a bit more red speckles but the face, expression, coat are identical! I thought I had one of a kind LOL!

shows a great picture of a red merle.... not as much coat as Freckles, but the same "attitude"!
