Hi...just wanted to know if anyone here has a shih tzu? This is my first dog so would relly want to hear some tips about the breed. I love my cocoa and would only want the best for him! I've read alot of books already on dogs but I know I'll be learning alot more from first hand info. thanks!

I have 4 shih-tzu's. If your snorts, its all normal, they may even gag a little bit. Its just nasal congestion. It's ind of cute when they get excited to see you, they snort really loud and jump around...I love my shih-tzu's! ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif) ![[Razz]](tongue.gif)

hi nathan! you must really have cute shih tzu's! wow...4! I only have one, his name is cocoa and he's been the love of my life! He doeasnt snort much, unlike yours, but he does snore ![[Wink]](wink.gif) He's only 5months old and unfortunately, he was diagnosed with high liver enzymes so hes on a strict prescriptive diet. I got him when he was just 6weeks old and I've been so awed at how fast he has grown! Please tell me more abt your pups and if you've encountered any health problems which I might find informative in raising Cocoa. Thanks for your reply!

Ruth, I have a Shih-Tzu, 3 yrs. old,barely! She is very playful, especially at night after supper.
We live near a naval air base and have lots of planes going over our house. She barks a couple of times then throws her head back and says Woooooo a few times. When we laugh at her, she'll do it more. (You can tell she's not very spoiled-right?) Also, my husband whistles for her and she tries to whistle back at him. I just love her when she's being so cute.
We have been working with her on obedience training and she is getting alot better, but she really used to be bad at times.
Does your dog sleep alot in the day time?
Does she sleep with you? Twinkie sleeps with us at night and if I take a nap, she loves to cuddle when she's sleeping. Otherwise, she doesn't like to be held alot. She is very independent and says, "But mama, I'd rather do it myself."

Barbara, youre shih tzu must be so cute! My started training Cocoa when he was 8weeks old and he's just so smart! Though you're right about them not wanting to be held much. I thought at one point I must've hurt him in some way coz he seemed to always back up when he sensed I was gonna carry him but i realized he probably just didnt enjoy being carried alot. Though he's totally loyal, he just follows me everywhere I go! Sadly, he's experiencing seperation anxiety whenever I leave him so I gotta nip that off. But we really tend to spoil these cute cuddly ones, dont we? So glad to hear our pups are so alike. Regarding his sleeping, I started making him sleep in his play pen but believe me, if he had a choice, he'd sleep right beside my bed if given a chance! I just love him!

oh, and yes.....he does sleep alot during the day! but when he's awake, he can be as hyper as a mad man!
