I just bought a pug pup yesterday and when I introduced him to Cocoa, my shih tzu pup, Cocoa just wouldnt go near him! He was totally scared! I had to coax him to smell the pug every now and then but he was obviously hesitant about it. The pug I bought just wanted to play so whenever he would walk over to Cocoa, he would instantly run away or move backward and start barking back. Is this normal? Do you think he'll get comfortable with this newcomer? Cocoa's not aggressive at all but he's double boozers size so I'm quite anxious and worried. Could someone give me advice on this?

I would not worry about it too much. We went through the same thing about 2 weeks ago when we introduced a new yorkie pup to our older yorkie. He (the older one) seemed very hesitant at the beginning - almost frightful, but they are fine now. You should just keep a watchful eye for the first couple of days and not leave them alone. Once they start playing they won't stop - just be careful because the bigger ones sometimes forget how small the little ones are and can play a bit rough.

The thing is, Boozer's just 4weeks old. He was given to the breeder in payment for the stud services of his sire. Anyways, I dont know if it's wise to even risk a squabble between Cocoa and a 4weeks old pug....he just seems so helpless, dont you think? I've now thought of seperating Boozer from Cocoa until he reaches his 6-8weeks...atleast he'll be far bigger and able to stand up to Cocoa.....what do you think?

Not a bad idea - our pup was 7 weeks (although she is extremely tiny - she weighed 640 grams) & our other one was 11 months. They are really enjoying playing now, but they are hardly ever totally alone. It would probably be good to seperate them, and I think it would do wonders if you could give them a little supervised visit every now and then. Some of the advice that I got was to have them meet & play on neutral ground - like a park etc. so that the older one gets to like and play with the pup before feeling threatened for territory. Good luck!
