How do i know for sure when the puppies will be coming, like within 24 hours, because no one is home during the day and we want to make sure someone will be here when she gets to that time, ya know? I know you can check by temperature, but how exactly do you do that? please help B.T.W The puppies are due the 13/14.... Thanks

Hi, You can't put it down to the last hour or so I'm afraid, unlike us humans they can't tell us if their having contractions. I guess this is your first litter? Ellie had hers last week. Being a maiden ***** , I checked on her for 3 nights running. Her temp. went down in the afternoon of the Thursday. I went to bed, got up at 1a.m., I stayed with her she was panting a lot. By lla.m. she was not contracting, I took her to vets, they said wait full 12 hours, by 3p.m. on the Friday still no contractions, went back to vet, he gave her oxytocin injection to get her started, she finished at 11p.m. friday night. I have helped hundreds of f.dogs giving birth, everyone is different, you really need someone there. Or you can chance it and leave nature to itself, depends how much your dog and pups are to you. companion and $$$. (please do not take last comment in a critical way, many people fall asleep watching and wake up to box of pups.) good luck :)Taking temp: you need an animal thermometer, put a little lubricant on it and put it in the anus. your dog is no more than a puppy and should be whelping under veterinary supervision (ie IN the vet surgery) as complications are extremely likely when a 10 month old puppy gives birth.

Yes it is, I am still trying to catch up on some sleep, It costs heaps if you want to give them the right stuff, and time. But you get out what you put in, my pups are all ordered before conception. So if your going to breed, there is so much to think about!!!!
