Topic: my dogs ear wont stay up

My german shepard's ear wont stay up. I found him scared on the road and rescued him into our home. He wont keep his ear up. I dont know why. Can anyone help?

How old do you think he is? Congratulations for rescuing him. I'm sure he will reward you a million times over with love and devotion. If a GSD's ears aren't up by the time they reach 6mths old, you can basically count on them 'not' going up..

if he's just young then maybe he just isnt mature yet. Most pointed eared breeds have floppy ears as puppies and then develop pointed ears as they get older. On the other hand if you dont know his breeding maybe he's not full-blooded and his ear wont ever stay pointed. If its a newly developed problem take him to the vet as it could indicate an infection of some sort. Lou

Within breeds you have various ear positions. Take the Border Collie... some down, some just tipped down, others "perked"... even one ear up and one ear down! Some think Dobies come with perked ears.... wrong... a guy with a knife did that!!!
