My husband recently built a kennel for our escape artists while we are away, & the dirt floor isn't cutting it. It's been wet here & the dogs have had more baths than they care for lately. He wants to put treated wood decking out there, I don't think wood is a good idea. I like the resin Kennel Deck, but it's VERY expensive as is pouring a cement floor, not to mention the work involved. Any suggestions?

You can lay hay down or chipped wood. But their is nothing wrong with a wood deck floor. It will actually allow the water to run between the boards so the animals do not get as wet or stay in wet surroundings as long.

Wood is fine if you don't have chewers, or kennel potty goers. I use straw or pine shavings and sometimes both. But I already have a cement barn floor, which is where our kennel is. Straw is about the cheapest option, as least for short term.

my kennels are cement and they are easy to clean i never tried the wood bottom but i think if you have the money then go for the cement, it can be expensive but it will last forever. i built mine myself so all i had to pay for were the materials.

I wouldn't mind investing in a cement floor, however we are only planning on being here another year or so.

Our dogs don't urinate in the kennel, but the GSD is young & still likes to chew.

Thanks all for your input! [Smile]
