I'm new here but where else better to go to get advice. Anyhow, I have a 2 year old female Cairn Terrier and she has been fine until today. She began to carry around this rubber toy and whining all day long. She takes it everywhere with her and refuses to let it out of her sight.
She has also begun digging in her crate and laying in it. She is very clingy and wants to be near or laying on my lap. She also refuses to eat her dog food, but will eat table s*****.
I have an appointment tomorrow morning with the vet, but has anyone else had this problem? Her breeder said that perhaps she may be going through a "false pregnancy".

Yes your breeder could be right. If you know she isn't actually pregnant. ?? false pregnancys are common. Even going to this extent of acting like they are in labour. If it goes on for too long your vet can prescribe some medication of hormones to stop her acting this way. When she has passed this faze, get her spayed as it can become unsettling for her to keep going through false pregnancys like this.

The vet confirmed that it was a false pregnancy. I intend to breed her, but only once and afterwards, I will have her spayed. Thanks for responding and hopefully this will soon end. The vet said this could go on up to 60 days and does not like to prescribe the hormone shot unless they get unsually agressive, which she is not.

Yes it will go for full term, I have a lab who does the same thing every heat cycle, she even gets a full milk supply. She has fooled me many a time either way with pregnancies, even up to her last litter which she started to have with the other dogs. I walked out at 7am to find her with a pup in her mouth wondering around trying to hide it from the other dogs so she could have the next one, what a panic, lucky my son was home sick so he could watch her while I fixed up the heated whelping box. She will be spayed now, I can't keep on going with her doing this and neither can she I don't think!!!
-------------------- I love my labs.
