Help!!! My newly adopted 38lb border collie mix (10 mos old) will only eat ground beef with rice mixed with only a little eukanuba. I tried putting less ground beef in and more dried dog food, but he has become totally disinterested when I do so. They told me when I adopted the dog two weeks ago that I should cook for him for about a week and then slowly add more dog food to the mixture (the vet recommended the eukanuba)until he is totally on the dog food. Because he is on the thin side and refused to eat for a whole day I went back to cooking the ground beef and rice. I don't want to be doing this forever so can someone PLEASE suggest another idea.

Thanks so much for your help!!!

my dogs don't like eukanuba (I also find it smells fishy).

Instead of cooking beef try mixing dog food (Pedigree with chunks & Gravy) in with dry food.

Ask the pet store for sample pacs of different dry food to find the one most appealing. Try using as treats by themselves. Ones on the floor are REJECTED.

Try yogurt... my weimaraner loooves the strawberry kind, and it keeps her coat nice and shiny. Since your pup needs to put on weight, by the low fat instead of the fat-free. She'll love it. Also, you can make your own "frosy paws" with it in the summer, it makes a great treat for your pup on a hot day!!

Good luck!

Weimlover you made me think of my Labs then, on really hot days there is nothing more they like than to sit at our feet on the porch each licking a frozen icypole. I also put frozen blocks of ice in their drinking water.
Back to the feeding problem, yes I would substitute the beef with tin food, at least it has all the vitamins needed.

I love my labs.
