I just received a phone call from a lady who bought one of Ellies Pups. She accidently ran over him yesterday, broke his pelvis and both back legs, he had to be put down, she is in tears, apologizing to me, I am in tears. I have one chocolate pup here that I was going to keep as someone cancelled out, I have offered it to her for free. Do you think I am crazy, I don't really know what I should do now. It really would depend on the circumstances of how the accident occured and your gut feeling of this woman. Follow your true feelings and don't just give her the pup because you feel bad for her. I don't mean to sound mean but if you trust her and it was a total accident that couldn't be avoided and you really feel you want to do it then by all means do. Like I said though go with you gut feeling about the situation. Nicole & Sheena

My condolences. You offered - Did she accept? How did the pup get out? Do you feel these people are responsible enough to try the last one?
At least she called you, she could have just bought another pup somewhere else.
Again, our thoughts are with you.

Gut feeling, She is a lovely person, a vet nurse, the accident, absolutely an accident. She has a much older lab too. She has sent numerous emails since taking the first pup, with photos of how he is doing, yahoo greetings from the pup to me, she has helped when I was down when Annie went, so I feel confident she is a good dog person, she didnt know one was left, she did'nt have to even ring and tell me as you say, she rang and apologized to me, she paid a lot of money for the first pup, so I feel pretty confident, giving him, I was just a bit shocked at first I guess, she even said she had to ring and tell me, she didn't want to put it into an email. But I am feeling sick in my stomach and disheartened about the whole breeding thing, especially with the controversy going on in the forum in other areas.

Don't feel bad - this wasn't a case of neglect on your part or the pup's new owner.
Accidents happen (that's why they are called accidents)
If I were her, I would love to get the last pup (I would probably pay you again).
If we could control everything we wouldn't be peope - we'd be gods.
Hug Ellie for me. D.

To all of you that replied and pm'd me this was the outcome. She had the car hooked up to her horse float, they unhitched it, she went to move the car just enough to get it away, she saw the pup with her other dog thought all was ok, but it ran over to car without her realizing. She is a vet nurse, was in tears that she was there to save lives not take them, I felt really bad for her and my pup. He was still alive but the operations at a young age would have been horrendous, one leg need amputating, pins etc. plus more when he grew, so he was put to sleep. She came yesterday and picked up the last puppy, I didn't ask for money and she didn't give any. She sent me a yahoo greeting this morning, his name is Murphy. Albert (other pup) went to work with her everyday, she was really attached to him, I hope she takes Murphy into her heart as much. Will Let you know how she goes. Thanks again everyone for your support, I will not be breeding for some time, I had already decided a while back to quit, this just confirmed my feelings, I'm getting too soft and attached to the pups. You may ask why show Wally? because I enjoy the shows, and I do get asked to stud him out.

Ellierat,
I've just read your post and I am so very sorry about the pup - for you and the lady who bought him from you! I wish I could bring him back for you both and for him. I don't think you are crazy for letting her have the last pup, but don't you think you deserve to have it if you want to keep it? You might want to think this over real good before letting it go for once it's gone, it will be too late to take it back.

Well, what did you decide. Is she getting the last pup? In a way I hope so because she will need something to help her get over her loss. I don't care if you only had them a day - the little ones chip out chunks of your heart.
Speaking of hearts, I hope you change your mind about breeding your girls. They have obviously good puppies that are sought after by good people. I don't think you should end it on this note but maybe decide after the next or next and be sure to keep some for yourself.
From reading your posts, this means alot to you and it would be a shame to stop. Anyway, you don't have to decide now. You can show Wally (I assume this is your male) win some ribbons and then decide.

Hey you lot, youre starting to know me too well, yes she got the last pup, I'm a softie, I spoke to her this morning after his first night, she said he did the same as the last one (Albert), straight over to the mat, pulled it to the door then went to sleep. I said it would have had Alberts smell and he would associate it from himself. She said she felt guilty at first taking him because of Albert, and I said I was worried when she left with him I thought it might be too soon, but she has found a place for him already, (in her heart)cause he is so adorable. I said that is all the payment I need.

Yeh I thought he was adorable too, I think that was what was wrong with me, I had become attached to him, he had been going in the car with me and cuddling up on my shoulder, as he was the only one left I had him around me a lot, he has the same temperament as his mum, which is pretty hard to beat. As you can see in the photo, try and get a pup to lay like that and take a shot of him without being all over you. I miss him heaps!!! Thanks everyone for your help and support, you have been fantastic, made me realize why I like this forum so much.

Ellierat, bless you for having such a good heart. I'm sure something good will happen to you in return.
What a sweet picture of the pup! I used to have a neighbor with a chocolate lab. He loved everyone and everyone loved him back.
We need more breeders out there like you. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

How nice of you Barbara, I guess if I can't give happiness to others, what is the reason for us being here. I received an email this morning, she said he is not Albert, but he is so loveable and helped her in her grief immensely. So a very happy ending all round. Thanks again everyone, do you like my boy Wally, He is an old smooch. ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif) [ April 22, 2004, 05:50 PM: Message edited by: ellierat ]

Ellierat, I love Rally! He's a doll baby. Chocolate Labs are so sweet, loveable, friendly, and playful. Everyone I know who has had them were happy owners.

why are you quitting Ellierat. You produce beautiful, high quality puppies, and they seem to be much in demand. Lou

Hi Lou, I guess I'm just pretty tired, I am getting too attached to the pups and worry about their new homes, even though the owners are screened, and I get replies I still worry. Also probably not the most appropriate thing to write on a forum, but my husband is dying, he only has a couple of years left and we want to go away together a bit.
